We
don't hold the priesthood,
but how can we as sisters honor it? What does it mean? Gospel
Chic has gathered some ideas from Relief Society/Priesthood
manual, about how we can better honor our husbands, fathers,
grandfathers, sons, and the priesthood they hold.
According
to the PH/RS manual, "The priesthood
is the greatest power on earth. It is not only the power of
God given to men on the earth to do His work, but it is the
same power by which our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ perform
Their work. In fact, it was through the power of the priesthood
that the Savior created the earth."
•
Encourage them-We might not be the holders of the priesthood,
but one thing we do have is persuasion. Our influence is very
strong over the priesthood holders in our lives. We can encourage
our husbands, sons, father, friends, to honor their priesthood
by keeping all of the Lord's commandments. We can encourage
them to do their home-teaching and take responsibilities over
their families in the ward or branch.
President
Harold B. Lee counseled: “We
must say, ‘Because I am a holder of the priesthood of the living
God, I am a representative of our Heavenly Father and hold the
priesthood by which He can work through me; I can’t stoop to
do some of the things that I might have done otherwise because
of my fellowship with the priesthood of God. …’
•
Respect the Priesthood holder's authority-Since priesthood
holders are representatives of Christ, we should treat them
as such. That means, when they are inspired by God, we should
be repectful of their counsel and take heed to it. We should
have faith in them and their abilities accounting to their
worthiness.
In
closing, even though we are
not the holders of this sacred gift, we are the chosen to help
suppport them and perform our own divine talents of that being
mothers in the church. Together, both are integral in our Heavenly
Father's plan.
