The
story is that while living in Saudi Arabia in the late 1970's
my grandmother served in the Relief Society and she taught sisters
how to make this as a Homemaking project. It is constructed out
of gingham, staples, braided yarn, a clothespin, paper cut out
and an old pop can lid. Over the years it has stood the test of
time, and has the stains to prove it! I decided it was high time
I recreated this piece in a more updated fashion.

In
honor of my grandmother Lilet, here are a few of her recipes that
once hung from this recipe keeper.
Kuchen
1
cup white sugar
1/4 cup butter
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
Frozen Fruit
Mix all ingredients together. Spread thin on a cookie sheet with
sides. Top with frozen fruit (we like raspberries). Sprinkle with
sugar and dot with butter. Bake 15 min. at 375.
Hearty
Beef Stew
4 strips of bacon cut into 1inch strips
2 tablespoons margarine
1 pound boneless lean chuck in 1 inch cubes
2 cups chopped onion
2 cups peeled, chopped cooking apples
1 cup beef broth
2 cups water
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups sliced carrots
1 pound smoked ham in 1 inch strips
4 cups cabbage, coarsely shredded.
In skillet fry bacon until crisp. Drain bacon grease into a heavy
sauce pan (set bacon aside) and add margarine and beef. Brown
meat evenly on both sides. Add onion and apple. Cook until apple
is tender. Add broth, water and salt. Cover pot and simmer until
meat is tender (about 2 hours). #0 min. before the end of the
cooking time add the carrots and ham. Ten minutes before the end
of cooking add bacon and cabbage. Simmer until cabbage is done.
Punch
2 cups orange juice
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup lime juice
3 tablespoons chopped fresh mint leaves
1/2 teaspoon orange jest
2 cups 7-up soda
Mix.
