1. Cut the potato half in two. Each piece will be a stamp.
2. Using a ball point pen, trace a heart or another object
on the end of one of the potato halves.
3. Using a sharp knife, carve out the negative part of
the heart, leaving just the heart.
4. Crafty Chic Tip: Cut sections around the potato
and then slide the knife (on the flat-side) underneath the
sections and gently pop them out. It works great. Stephanie
finished carving her stamp 10 minutes before me!
5. Here is one example of a heart.
6. Here is another example. Most of the potato has been
whittled to get the desired heart shape. (Note, if you mess
up at your first attempt, you can always trim your potato
and start over.)
7. Now that the stamp is ready, it's time to prepare the
cards. Fold the cardstock in half, smoothing the fold with
a pair of scissors. (This will make the card look more professional.)
8. Using a brush or sponge, paint the stamp with poster
paint.
9. Make sure that you cover the entire area evenly.
10. It's a good idea to stamp a piece of scrap paper or
a paper plate before you stamp the actual card. Make sure
all of the stamp is evenly covered with paint.
12. Reapply paint to make more and more prints. You might
want to rinse the potato after a while if you get too much
paint buildup. (Note, the potato only really has about a
one-day life span.)
13. Once you stamped the cards, use pens, paint, glitter
and glue to decorate them to your liking.
